A new retail precinct featuring electrical goods, pet supplies, homewares and automotive products will soon take shape at the corner of Graf Drive and Aura Boulevard.
But if you had your hopes up for a Westfield, they may be dashed.
Aura Home + Life, will span a whopping 18,000sqm, with 12 -16 tenancies, 400 car parks and access to the Bells Creek Arterial and Bruce Highway.
Tenancies for recreational items, plus up to two food and beverage outlets will also be included.
But it isn’t the “Westfield” many local residents were expecting.
Back in 2012, news spread a shopping precinct “set to rival Westfield Chermside” was earmarked for the Caloundra South.
At the time, media reports touted a “vibrant, thriving, shopping, business, entertainment and community hub”, but a “Westfield” per se, was never actually promised.
A Stockland spokesperson said there would be a shopping centre coming to the area, but details were not yet confirmed.
“We can confirm there is a proposed shopping centre planned for Aura,” the spokesperson said.
“At this stage we are currently planning for Stage 1, however we don’t have any further updates to share.
“We will keep you and the community informed when we’re able to do so.”
Bells Reach resident Paul Monaghan said the expectation from locals was for a large shopping centre and services hub.
“A commercial and health services hub at Caloundra South would have enormous benefits to the whole region, including Beerwah,” Mr Monaghan said.
“All traffic flows into Caloundra due to lack of infrastructure here.
“It’s ridiculous that it takes 20 minutes to get to town when I could spend five minutes going the other direction.
“I am sure many would agree – it would be sensible planning that council should be getting behind.”
Stockland Aura Project Director Josh Sondergeld said AuraHome+ Life would create local jobs and drive economic growth.
“We’re pleased to be working with our partners to deliver this precinct which reflects our commitment to building vibrant communities where people can live, work and play,” Mr Sondergeld said.
