Our Local Business Highlight focuses on a local business operating in and around Aura.

This week we hear from the team at Sunshine Mitre 10, located at 15 Edison Crescent, Baringa.

Q. How long have you been operating in Aura, and what changes have you seen in the area over time?

A. We opened in Feb 2023 with a Grand Opening Sale and Community Event – we were thrilled with the level of support from the community, from both DIY customers and local TRADE Builders.

Q. What do you love most about doing business in Aura?

A. We love the tight-knit local community.

Now that we’ve been in business over a year, we’re getting to know so many locals that get their building and landscaping supplies from us or stop by for a gift on their way home.

We love when people say they were able to shop local and we’ve saved them a drive into Caloundra.

Q. Can you share a memorable success story or milestone your business has achieved here?

A. Our first ‘birthday’ celebration after one year in operation felt pretty special.

It was a milestone event which felt like a real party – we had the Hot 91 radio station there, Aura Netball ran the BBQ, we had face painting for the kids, cake, and the Dulux dog was in attendance.

Most pleasing, was the feedback from the local community, about having a hardware store in Aura and not having to drive into Caloundra.

Q. How does your business contribute to the local community, and what community initiatives are you involved in?

A. We’ve partnered with Baringa State School, Chiggy’s Skateboarding, Aura Netball, Rhythm Espresso Café, Whites IGA, as well as donating goods to various community groups and causes.

Q. What challenges have you faced as a business owner in Aura, and how have you overcome them?

Getting the word out that we’re here and we’re open in a new and growing area.

Over time our customer base has naturally grown as you’d expect.

Q. What future plans or upcoming projects do you have for your business, and for Aura?

A. We’ve partnered with some wonderful local businesses already and we look forward to growing these partnerships.

We’re also excited about all the new development to come and to see which other businesses will make the City of Colour home in the coming years.
