Welcome to our “Sporting and Community Highlight”.
Each week we will feature a local sports or community club contributing to the rich social tapestry and active lifestyle of Aura – The City of Colour.
Club: Baringa Football Club (FC)
Secretary: Kendall Morton
Q. Can you give us an overview of your sporting club and its history in Aura?
A. Baringa FC is a very young club that prides itself on being part of the Aura community. Over the past 12 months we have grown significantly and now have 22 teams!
Q. What sports or activities does your club offer, and who can join?
A. We are a football (soccer) club that offers everything from U6 through to seniors teams for men, women and premier league
Q. How can new members get involved, and are there any upcoming registration dates or events?
A. We love new families coming along! Email [email protected] with any questions but keep an eye on our Facebook page to see upcoming events, summer social comp, January kids clinics and rego for 2025 opening in January!
Q. What achievements or milestones has your club reached in recent years?
A. This year we grew by 36 per cent and also took Baringa FC to the premier league.
This has been a very exciting development for our club and it’s great to see so many kids active and loving their football!
Q. How does your club contribute to the local community and promote a healthy, active lifestyle?
A. We just love people playing football! We are inclusive and welcome all members of the community to either play or watch, it’s always a good time at Baringa FC!
Q. Can you share a memorable moment or success story from your club?
A. Our memorable moment success story is the growth of the club. The men had to start up the bottom to work their way up in the leagues so they had to win the leagues to get higher.
And then now we have prems and readies – they have been competitive and it’s been a great success for growth in the club!
Q. What challenges has your club faced, and how have you addressed them?
A. Like all community groups and clubs, we have struggled with rising costs and busier families.
We have had to completely change the way we operate in order to ensure our club is sustainable, and we are so grateful to local businesses that have sponsored our 2024 projects.
Q. What future plans or goals does your club have, and how can the community support your efforts?
A. This summer we plan to run a social 6-a-side comp for all members of the community and we hope to see many new faces join in!
It’s a great way to be more active and also meet new people.
We have a strategic plan for our club involving new lights so we can continue to grow and facilitate our community coming together.
Q. Are there any volunteer opportunities or ways for non-members to get involved with your club?
A. We LOVE new volunteers, whether it’s line marking, setting up, working in the canteen or generally helping out.
Community clubs run on volunteers and we all have a great time!
The more friends the merrier 🙂
