Each week, “Aurian of the Week” shines a spotlight on a member of our tight-knit community.

Join us as we delve into their experiences, passions, and what they love about living in Aura and the Sunshine Coast.

Get inspired by the stories and insights of your neighbours!

Name/s: Laura, 19 and Cassie, 18 – Baringa

  • What brought you to Aura, and how long have you lived here?

Our parents built a house in Baringa in 2021 and we moved from the north side of Brisbane to Aura.

We had always loved the Sunshine Coast and couldn’t wait to live closer to the beach.

  • What do you love most about living in Aura?

We both study at the University of the Sunshine Coast and commute there a couple of days a week.

Laura also has a job in Caloundra city in retail.

We find Aura makes the highway easily accessible both for getting to and from uni and because we both still do some social activities back in Brisbane.

  • Can you share a favorite memory or experience you’ve had in Aura?

We loved the first Farmers Market and we look forward to going every week.

It had a really great vibe and we felt the stall holders had a young, hip approach to their wares that we weren’t expecting.

  • What do you enjoy doing in your free time on the Sunshine Coast?

We started a learn to surf program back in 2022 and we have both tried to keep up with our surfing – although our skills are slowly coming along, we can surf a lot better than we ever could before we moved here.

We like to go to Moffat Beach to watch the really serious surfers at that break come and do their thing, we find it inspiring.

  • How do you stay involved in the local community?

We use the local parks every single day, either to go for a run or do some exercise or to take our dog to see other dogs at the fenced off dog park.

We are still exploring Aura as things are constantly changing and we love to grab a morning coffee from a few of the local cafes that have come to know us as regulars.

  • What local spots or activities would you recommend to newcomers?

If you’ve ever wanted to try surfing, Aura is close enough to the beach to give it a go.

We are looking forward to the new sports centre that is opening in Aura soon to pick up some indoor sports too.
