Detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit have arrested a 12-year-old boy following an alleged stolen car incident in Nirimba on Sunday November 3.

It will be alleged the boy stole a Toyota Fortuner from a Nirimba property at approximately 5.30pm before crashing into a light pole near Central Avenue and North Village Drive a short time later.

No one was physically injured.

The boy was taken into police custody at the scene.

He has been charged with burglary, unlawful use of motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and obstruct police and appeared at the Maroochydore Children’s Court on November 4.

A local resident who chased down the offender said they hoped the “traumatic situation” could turn into a lesson and the offender was brought to justice for the situation.

“Adult crime, adult time, why did it take police so long to act?”

“There was a civilian chasing him in a car for five to ten minutes prior – beeping and warning people to get off the roads.

“Our neighbour ran to the scene – it was like something you see on the news.”
